Botox and Dermal Fillers

Dentist as a Botox Provider

Dentists are the uniquely suited for providing Botox and dermal filler injections. As dental professionals, we have received extensive training in the area of the head and neck and we perform more invasive procedures in the facial area than all other healthcare providers who are licensed to administer Botox. Dentists are much more familiar with how to take care of complications in these facial areas than other healthcare providers. Dentists inject anesthetic for a living and know how to make these injections comfortable, quick, and relatively painless for our patients. Most patients report that compared to the other healthcare professionals they have gone to before for Botox and dermal filler procedures, the injections given by dentists are quicker and much more comfortable.

Therapeutic Effects of Botox

While most people are aware of the cosmetic benefits of BOTOX® in reducing lines and wrinkles, many patients are pleasantly surprised to learn about the therapeutic benefits of Botox injections. Patients suffering from TMJ (temporal mandibular joint) pain may experience relief from their symptoms. Botox injections have also been found to relieve tension headaches due to clenching and grinding the teeth.

Commonly referred to as Botox, we offer both BOTOX® and Xeomin®, which are different forms of the prescription drug - Botulinum Toxin Type A. The medicine is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe forehead lines, crow's feet lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.

Bruxism, the medical term for teeth grinding and clenching, may happen while you are asleep or awake and can result in pain and dental problems. Chronic bruxism can lead to headaches, earaches, facial pain, and even migraines. Dental problems resulting from bruxism include loss of tooth enamel, increased tooth sensitivity, and flattening and/or chipping of the teeth. Chronic grinding or clenching gives the masseter muscle a physical workout. As the masseter muscle gets larger from bruxism, it may not only cause discomfort but may also lead to the appearance of a square jaw. While use of a nightguard can often reduce the effects of bruxism, for more severe cases of bruxism, treatments with Botox can provide tremendous relief from headaches and jaw soreness by allowing the jaw (masseter) muscle to relax.

Dermal Fillers

What is a smile without teeth AND lips? Dermal fillers can enhance your cosmetic dental treatment. Whether you were born with straight, white teeth - or you invested in making them that way. Adding a little fullness to your lips can make a dramatic framework. Similarly, as we get more mature we can lose volume in our face. This loss of volume can make us look older than we feel. Dermal fillers can add volume to areas of our face and reduce wrinkles, allowing us to look younger.

Juvederm® is a smooth-gel filler used to instantly smooth away wrinkles and create volume. The smooth and natural-looking results of Juvederm® may last up to a year. Young, healthy skin contains an abundance of hyaluronic acid (HA) which allows it to be full and smooth. Sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin as you age. The loss of HA causes your skin to lose volume and structure, creating undesirable facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm® is an injectable gel that safely and effectively replaces the lost HA in your skin, bringing back volume and smoothing away parentheses lines around your nose and mouth, reducing vertical lip lines, and adding volume to cheeks and lips.
